Did you know an emerald cut consists of 50 to 58 facets? This way a tanzanite will feature the perfect amount of brilliance and beauty. Even though the origins of the exquisite cut is unknown, the style specifications date back to an estimated 500 years ago during the Art Deco period. In the 1920s the emerald cut started to gain popularity for its clean lines and perfectly proportioned facets.
The emerald cut is known for exquisite beauty and its extraordinary ability to make your finger appear slender and longer. The unique cut also makes the gemstone seem a lot larger than it actually is. The vintage-style look of the emerald cut most certainly makes for an alluring piece of tanzanite jewellery.

TANZANITE
Frequently Asked Questions
Tanzanite is found in only one location in the world, a small, protected mining area in Tanzania at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This singular origin makes Tanzanite one of the most geographically exclusive gemstones on Earth.
Unlike diamonds or sapphires, Tanzanite exists in a finite supply. With no alternative sources worldwide, its rarity is defined not by demand, but by nature itself.
High-quality Tanzanite has become increasingly sought-after due to its limited supply and growing global appreciation. Its rarity and provenance make it appealing to collectors who value exclusivity.
Yes at Tanzanite International we specialise in loose Tanzanite.
Due to the fact that tanzanite is only found in one place in the world and is formed as the result of a rare geological phenomenon, most estimates are that there is enough tanzanite in the ground to last for another 10-12 years.
Tanzanite is softer than a diamond and has a similar hardness to that of an Emerald, but is less brittle. Tanzanite measured 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. Simple precautions should be taken to preserve its beauty. Tanzanite is ideally suited for wear in dress rings, earrings and necklaces, rather than everyday wear. As such, we do not recommend Tanzanite in engagement rings that are worn every day.
Tanzanite International is committed to contributing towards the Maasai tribe’s sustainability and social and economic upliftment.
